Knuckles Mountain Range
Knuckles mountain range is a part of Hill Country (Central) Sri Lanka in district of Matale and Kandy which is also above 3000Ft or 915 meters from sea level and covers an area of about 90 sq. Miles or 234 sq.KM of land extent. This mountain range is called as Knuckles is because when it’s seen from Kandy the mountain range looks like the knuckles of a clenched fist. The Sri Lankan ancient name for this mountain is “Dumbara Mitiyawatha” which means “The Misty Valley”. Giving this mountain an extra specialty, it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010. All the routes to Knuckles are covered in thick forests and large number of prime scenic sceneries giving the justice to self-preserve itself. This mountain range is a scenic Paradise for the hikers which will make unforgettable beautiful memories as well as giving a wonderful adventurous experience.
Meemure
Meemure is a village of Sri Lanka near the border between Kandy District and Matale District in the Knuckles Mountain Range with the population about 400. Meemure is one of the most remote villages in Sri Lanka with the only access via a 14km trail from the town of Loolwatte. To imagine how remote this village is, there is no cellular service to this village; only the CDMA telephones are available. Meemure village owns an exceptional natural beauty. It is rich with natural beauty as well as Traditional Sri Lankan styles. Villagers of Meemure depend on several staple crops including pepper, cardamom, paddy and ginger.
MEEMURE VIA KNUCKLES - ITINERARY
| Day 1 | Leave Negombo at 5.30am in the morning. On the way we will be taking our breakfast. (Customer has to pay for their breakfast. Ceylon Max Travels will not charge for first day breakfast) Arrive at the destination village around 10.00am. Village tea experience. Getting ready for the hike. Starting the hike from the village around 11.00am. (The hike will take around 2 - 3 hours depending on the customer's hiking experiences) Enjoy the nature trail covered with Knuckles Mountains misty forest and cold streams flows through the trail. (Water from the streams are drinkable and if the customer prefers, they can refill their water bottles from the streams) Arrive at the destination around 2.00pm. Lunch time. Journey to the hidden waterfall. Spend time at the waterfall. (Water from the waterfall is drinkable and if the customer prefers, they can refill their water bottles from the waterfall.) Have a natural cold bath at the hidden waterfall. Enjoy the scenic views from the waterfall. Evening tea. Hike back to the camping site. Setup the camp site. Dinner time. Enjoy the nightlife of Knuckles Mountain Range. |
| Day 2 | Starting the second day having the morning tea at the campsite. Getting ready. Breakfast time. Pack up the campsite for descending. Explore into the wilderness of Knuckles Mountain Range. Hike back to the village. Arrive at the village around 11.30am. Leave the village to Meemure at 12.00pm. Arrive at Meemure around 1.30pm. Traditional village lunch. Hike to the campsite and setting up the tents. Village experience. Start the hike to the hidden waterfall around 3.30pm. Arrive at the hidden waterfall. Enjoy the scenic view of the surrounding and have a natural bath at the waterfall. Hike back to the campsite for the amazing night. Dinner time. |
| Day 3 | Starting the third day having the morning tea at the campsite. Have a wash at the stream beside the campsite. Breakfast time. Village Explore. Hike to Suriya Arana Falls for water activities. There are two kinds of water activities, Normal Water Activities and Advanced Water Activities. The customer can pick his/her preferred category. For Advanced Water Activities additional charges will be applied. Hike back to the village. Lunch time. Head back to hometown. |
