Kandy City Tour - ITINERARY
After enjoying our morning breakfast we will head towards the central province to visit the last known kingdom of Sri Lanka where the tooth relic still remains in a sacred temple dating back 500 years. Historical records suggest that Kandy was first established by the Vikramabahu III (1357–1374 CE), who was the monarch of the Kingdom of Gampola, near the Watapuluwa area, north of the present city, and named Senkadagalapura at the time. Kandy is known worldwide because of the tooth relic and its holistic representation of the ancient history of Sri Lanka. Kandy was the last standing kingdom of Sri Lanka before the British Empire ruled Sri Lanka for 133 years.
Our first stop in our journey will be Pinnawala Elephant orphanage where we will come across hundreds of Elephants in close proximity. We also have the chance to have an elephant Safari, ride them, feed them and wash them. Moreover we can witness the elephant dung paper factory which is also a fascinating experience.
Afterwards we also have the option of visiting a Sri Lankan Herbal and Spice garden to get a knowledge on how people produced Herbal medicine in ancient times. Then we will make our way to the sacred temple of the tooth relic of Lord Buddha. Having witnessed this once in a lifetime experience we will have our lunch in the middle of this city. Finally we will head towards the Royal Botanical gardens where we will come across so many species of plants and flowers. Then we will head back to Negombo reminiscing about the day we had and the unforgettable memories shared.
